It is SHE Who I See – Music Compilation
This is a compilation of all of the music from It is SHE Who I See, Craig Harris’ multimedia performance that celebrates the original woman who is in all of us. It is SHE Who I See emanates from two sources: a digital illustration created by artist Candy Kuehn that provides the show title, and a poem by renowned poet Rita Dove – “The Hill has Something to Say”.
Candy’s digital illustration reflects how Candy perceives the original woman whose DNA carries forward into all of us through time. The poem expresses the depth and meaning of all that has unfolded through time on the hill, and reinforces the thread that holds all time together in us.
The Hill Has Something to Say Rita Dove but isn't talking. Instead the valley groans as the wind, amphoric, hoots its one bad note. ... (See the entire poem here.)
Presented at the Ritz Theatre in Minneapolis, MN in 2012, the show includes live and recorded music in a multi-dimensional soundspace, imagery and pre-taped performance projected onto a stage hung with translucent scrims, lighting design, and movement performed by a male theater artist. The focus of the movement was the male performer’s exploration of his internal states of imbalance between male and female energy.
The music for It is SHE Who I See includes selections from several of Craig Harris’ works created since 1983, including “The Hill has Something to Say;” “On the Hill,” “On the Hill 2,” and “On the Hill 3,” which are improvisations by the ensemble Shape deconstructing the poem “The Hill has Something to Say;” “Still,” “Now Time All Time,” “Gentle Rain,” “Lilacs in Spring in Terezin,” and “After the Storm,” from his Piano-Cello Suite; “Beauty Awakens,” Beauty is…,” and “Deep Sleep” from Harris’ Reimagining Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite; “Threshold,” Harris’ 1983 chamber ensemble work recorded by the ensemble Zeitgeist; and “SHE is,” a work created for this production.
It is SHE Who I See is available as a physical CD, and sound tracks are available for download as a compilation or as individual tracks in mp3 format (great for general music listening), or in wav format (high resolution listening and public presentation).
